Software for electricians, from the callout quote to the paid job.
IBIOS is software for electricians in the UK. It handles the operational side of running an electrical or heating business: quoting from a mobile, ordering parts against the job, and collecting payment on completion. Coming soon: an AI receptionist to answer callouts when you can’t. IBIOS does not produce certificates: it runs the work around them.
Pay by link when the job is done. Call reports from your existing call recordings. Coming soon: AI Receptionist for out-of-hours callouts. Early access by waiting list.
The operational problems most electricians run into
The technical side of electrical and heating work is what most engineers are trained for. The business side — answering callouts at 10pm, quoting on the spot, ordering the right parts for the right job, and collecting payment before the customer forgets — is where time and money tend to leak out.
Missed calls are the most immediate problem. A customer with a tripping circuit or a boiler lockout will often call several businesses. The first one to answer and confirm a callout usually gets the job. If your phone goes to voicemail, the next number gets the work.
Parts ordering is the second area. A van job that needs a specific component requires a quick order, linked to the job it belongs to. If the order lives in an email thread or a text message and not against the job record, you lose track of what has been ordered, what has arrived, and what the job has cost.
Payment collection is the third. Chasing payment by bank transfer after the job is complete slows your cash cycle. A pay-by-link sent when the job is done lets the customer pay straight away.

Six capabilities relevant to electrical and heating businesses
Job quoting from mobile
Build a job quote from your parts catalogue and labour rates on any device. Send the customer an approval link before you leave site. Deposit paid by card before you order the parts.
Parts ordering linked to the job
Raise purchase orders for parts and materials directly from the job record. Track what has been ordered, what has arrived, and what is still outstanding — by job, not by supplier alone.
AI Receptionist for emergency callouts (coming soon)
Coming soon: will answer callout calls when you can’t, log the fault description, caller address, and contact details, and alert your on-call engineer.
Pay by link on completion
Send a pay-by-link when the job is marked complete. QR code on printed completion documents for on-site payment. No chasing bank transfers. Invoicing is coming soon.
Call reports for dispute protection
Call reports and call briefings from your existing call recordings (GoHighLevel), so you can check what was agreed.
Van stock basics
Track common parts and consumables carried on your van as inventory items. Allocate van stock to jobs when used. Low-stock reorder alerts are coming soon.
What IBIOS does not do — stated honestly
IBIOS is a trade ERP covering job management, quoting, parts ordering, and payment collection, with AI call handling coming soon. It does not generate NICEIC electrical installation certificates, minor works certificates, or Gas Safe documentation. Specialist certification is outside the scope of IBIOS. If your business requires completion certificates, you will use your existing certification tool for that workflow and IBIOS for everything else around it.
How an emergency callout flows through IBIOS

Buying guide
Choosing software for an electrical contracting business: jobs, materials and the paperwork
Written by the IBIOS team. IBIOS was built inside a working bathroom showroom in Northern Ireland, where it runs the business day to day. Last updated 18 October 2026.
How do you choose software for electricians and electrical contractors?
Separate two jobs that often get muddled: running the business (quotes, materials, scheduling, getting paid) and producing the certificates. Most electricians already have certification software they trust. Choose business software that sits happily next to it.
- Your kind of work. Small works and fault-finding, domestic rewires, EV chargers and solar, or commercial fit-outs. The right tool differs for each.
- Quotes from wholesaler prices. Your cable, consumer units and fittings come from wholesalers’ price lists and quotes. The software should read those, not make you retype them.
- Materials ordered per job. What was ordered for which job, from which wholesaler, and what has arrived.
- Scheduling. Electricians, apprentices and subcontractors on the right job on the right day, without double-booking.
- Payment. Deposits on larger jobs, payment on completion for small works, each recorded with its reference.
- Certificates. Decide which tool issues installation certificates, minor works certificates and condition reports, and how the job and certificate are linked.
What are the notification rules, and do they differ across the UK?
They do. In England and Wales, Part P of the Building Regulations covers electrical work in homes, and notifiable work must be either self-certified through a registered competent person scheme or approved by building control. Wales has its own version of the Building Regulations, with Part P in a similar form.
Part P does not apply in Scotland or Northern Ireland, which have their own building rules; check with local building control what applies to a given job. BS 7671, the wiring regulations, is the technical standard used across the UK.
Whichever nation you work in, your software should let you record which scheme or route each job was notified under, and find it again.
Does IBIOS produce electrical certificates?
No. Electrical installation certificates, minor works certificates and condition reports are best produced in dedicated certification software, usually the one your scheme supports. IBIOS keeps the job they belong to: the quote, the materials, the schedule and the payments.
When is a field-service suite the better choice?
If most of your work is short visits, testing and small works, a field-service or job-management suite built around an engineer’s phone app may suit you better, and some link to certification tools. That is a fair choice.
IBIOS earns its place on jobs with real materials and a quote behind them: a rewire, a commercial fit-out, a run of EV charger installs. Each IBIOS product works on its own, so you can use quoting or order management next to your existing tools.
Certification app, field-service suite, accounts package or IBIOS?
How the usual options tend to work out for an electrical contractor.
| Option | Best for | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| Certification software | Producing certificates and reports to the wiring regulations. | It is not a business system: quotes, materials and payments live elsewhere. |
| Field-service / job-management suite | Many short visits with electricians on a phone app. | Often light on wholesaler quotes, supplier orders and stock; check before relying on it for bigger jobs. |
| Accounts package with invoicing | Sole traders who mainly need invoices and VAT. | No job record, so materials and job notes drift into texts and notebooks. |
| IBIOS | Contractors who quote from wholesaler prices, order materials per job and schedule a team. | Early access by waiting list. Not a certificate tool. The AI receptionist, QuickBooks and Xero sync, and timesheets are coming soon, not live yet. |
What you need in place before you switch
- Your wholesaler accounts and the price lists or quotes you get from each.
- Your labour rates and deposit terms.
- Your competent person scheme details, if you work in England or Wales.
- Which certification software you use, and how you will reference certificates on each job.
- Who can see wholesaler discounts and payment details.
What it costs
For electricians the quiet losses are materials bought and not charged, and quotes that go out late and lose the job. Compare software on how it handles those, not on the number of features.
Founding prices for waiting-list members are explained on the pricing page. You can start with quoting or order management on its own.

What people get wrong
- Expecting one tool to be both the business system and the certification tool.
- Assuming Part P rules apply in Scotland or Northern Ireland.
- Ordering materials by phone and never linking the order to the job.
- Quoting rewires from memory instead of from current wholesaler prices.
- Giving apprentices and subcontractors access to cost prices.
